Methods of Repair

Glues for Ceramics And More

For hairline cracks:

• Vinyl spackling compound (DAP, regular weight)
1. Remains porous, spreads easily, border the crack with masking tape so the spackling does not get on the surface of the pot. Finish by sanding depending on surface desired.
2. Airbrush pigment on. Can do an opaque layer first and follow-up with airbrushing. Use hobby-shop enamel paints.

For a chip with clean break:

• Use carpenter’s white glue for quick fix, but not permanent.
• Power Poxy: www.powerpoxy.com
1. Tacky, not runny, and no dimension. Stronger than super glue
• Zap-A-Gap

For fill:

• East Valley Epoxy: Evsupply.com - Pigment for epoxy, also sells two-part epoxies.
• PC7/ PC11
• Bond-O
1. Difficult to sand when cured, work wet, really strong.

For Gluing Ceramic to Metal or Wood:

• Premium Gold Construction Adhesive comes in caulk tube, need caulk gun, very strong, shrinks as dries
• PC- 7 or PC-11
Use metal tabs for reinforcing glue joints.
Use rubber liners like latex or tool dip to protect fitted clay joints or flanges.
Use East Valley Epoxy to reinforce holes that are created through clay walls as a method of hanging.
